Masdar, in Abu Dhabi is or rather will be, a city of the future. (Do not mix up Abu Dhabi with Dubai its rival neighbor.) The goal, according to the Business Week 12/24/07 article Guess Who’s Building a Green City is “to create the world’s first metropolis that emits not a single extra molecule of carbon dioxide…” The article also says it “will look like a cross between The Arabian Nights and the Jetsons.”
Apparently the city will rely primarily on solar power and no traditional vehicles will be allowed inside the city walls. Wind towers and fountains will be used for natural air conditioning and humidity. London architects, Foster and Partners are designing this potentially amazing community.
It sounds like this is one community to watch!
