Even the Pope Thinks Green

In Australia, this summer (July, 2008) at Roman Catholicism’s World Youth Day, Pope Benedict XVI spoke out in favor of environmentalism. He said that “insatiable consumption” has scarred the earth and squandered its resources.

In speaking to youth from 168 countries he referred to global warming by saying “some of you come from island nations whose very existence is threatened by rising water levels, others from nations suffering the effects of devastating drought.”

His theme at this conference along with other things he has said, have given him a reputation as the “green Pope.”

It is encouraging that in his efforts to inspire people across the globe, even the Pope is spreading the green message.
